I am excited to teach your child about the wonderful world of technology. In the computer lab students will recieve instruction following the Alpine District and Utah State Core curriculum guide for computers. Below is a list of what students will be doing this trimester.
Course Outline: * Keyboarding
* Word Processing
* Multi-Media Presentations
* Educational Software
* Internet
Grading Policy: Students will be graded on participation, keyboarding improvement, presentations, and effort. There will be a few tests and class assignments as well. The grading scale is as follows.
100 - 90% = A
89 - 80% = B
79 - 70% = C
69 - 0% = C-
STUDENT INTERNET USE:
The computers at Shelley Elementary are filtered using a proxy server provided by Utah Education Network. The proxy server will filter out sites or pages that are on a hit list of objectionable sites, making inappropriate material inaccessible. Since there are thousands of new sites on the internet every day, this filtering is not 100% effective, but very close to it. Students will not be allowed to use the internet without teacher permission and supervision. The District Acceptable Use Policy will be sent home before internet instruction. This will need to be read and signed by both the student and parent before internet use. Web surfing will not be allowed in the lab. Only sites with educational value will be given to students to look up information.
Discipline:
We hope to create a positive atmospere in the computer lab. We will work together during the first few days of school to go over classroom and school wide rules for conduct. Each student will be expected to abide by the classroom and school rules. Appropriate and exemplary behavior will be encouraged and rewarded with praise, added privileges, and positive notes home to parents. Inappropriate behavior will be discouraged. Hopully by talking one - on - one we can solve most problems. Students will receive two warnings for misbehavior before being detained from any privileges. Parents will be contacted should misbehavior persist.
Attendance:
Students are expected to be in class on time every day. Illness or other emergencies occasionally prevent attendance. should such occur, students are responsible for any and all class information and / or assignments. Students are required to bring a written excuse from home. The same is also true for students who arrive late or who are checked out of school early.
Homework: Homework can be expected as an extention of in - class assignments. It is intended that the average student will have no more than fifteen minutes of homework when it is given. All homework is due the very next school day. No grade will be given for late work unless a note by a parent gives good reason for the delay.
